PUHOI WOMEN’S DINNER NOVEMBER 1 2017

Dear Puhoi women and friends from neighbouring communities, especially newcomers to our area,

Wednesday, November 1, is the date set for our annual Puhoi Womens Dinner in the Puhoi hotel.

Please read below for the way the system operates, and this year’s menu.

——

PUHOI WOMEN’S DINNER NOVEMBER 1 2017–AN INTRODUCTION

Our annual Puhoi Women’s Dinners started in 2009 as a means of having fun with friends from our local community in a relaxed setting with no pressures on participants to cook, ‘bring a plate’ or drive long distances.

They were made possible by our publican Gillian Seymour’s opening up of the character-filled hotel dining room to bookings by selected groups for catered dinners, sometimes cooked by Gillian herself.

As well as a chance for old friends to gather, we are always thrilled to be able to welcome newcomers to Puhoi, or when our local regulars bring a friend from another area, or maybe a younger relative, or a visitor from overseas, or are celebrating a special occasion.

The 2017 dinner is on Wednesday, November 1, and the theme is Benvenuto Italia – Italian Cuisine.

The programme begins with a gathering in the hotel bar from 6pm -7pm, giving time for guests, some of whom come directly from work, to relax with a complimentary cocktail, or a drink bought from the bar, and nibbles, which are included in the price of the evening.

At 7pm we go into the dining room for a meal comprising a starter and main course, plus dessert followed by tea or coffee.

A vegetarian option is available – just let me or the kitchen know in advance.

Generally, we have a speaker, by popular choice one of our own members, who entertains us for around 15 minutes before coffee, as well as a little raffle as a fundraiser for the next dinner.

This year’s speaker will be American historical fiction writer William C. Hammond, best known for his Cutler family maritime chronicles (Google Wikipedia), now residing in Puhoi.

Small items for the raffle would be appreciated.

Men can come if they agree to wear a skirt – so far no-one has taken up this invitation! (although one year one came without a skirt, or anything else, either!)

The cost of the whole evening, excluding any drinks you buy from the bar, is $30, and we ask for payment in advance if possible to confirm your commitment to attending.

There are 30 seats and we take you on a first come, first accepted, basis, after which we place you on a waiting list.

The first thing to do is book your place by emailing me, Judith Williams: [email protected] as several have already done – please, don’t rely on my memory if you tell me on the shop step or in the street!

Near the date I will send out a list of all those who have given me their names so you can check if there are still places free.

Please make out your cheques or leave cash for PUHOI BISTRO and place it in MY mail box (not the hotel’s) PO Box 404 151

Looking forward to having you there, with kindest regards,

Judith Williams

Puhoi burglary

My house on the hill just before J tolhopf Rd ,container and out sheds were robbed. The gate chain and container locks were cut as well as a main entrance dead bolt door smashed. It happened between 7.pm Tues and 7am wed( Tues night) They used a vehicle “ ute or surf type” with large mud tyres and possibly had a trailer . They have taken a lot of personal stuff which they will possibly throw away as it will have no value to them as well as tools and valuable possessions etc . They backed down the side of the house and parked by the container as well as out by the road . If any one saw any vehicles looking suspicious or looked like they were moving house or loads of stuff , around Ahuroa rd through these times please contact me . They may of headed either to Puhoi or Ahuroa couldn’t tell.

Someone let our pet Ram out of his pen the day before and the steely boys may of given him the bash as he was covered in mud as if rolled around , I only hope Leroy broke their knee first. Leroy’s ok and back in Pen with treats.Regards
