There will be no closures in place on Friday and Saturday nights. Dates are weather dependant.

Dear Neighbour,

Work went well last night during the road closure, but with the bad weather progress was slower than expected. We now require another night to complete this work and need to close the road again tonight, Wednesday 27 May. We will endeavour to finish the work tonight, but it may again depend on the weather conditions, I will keep you updated.

If business have any deliveries that were due tonight, give me a call/email and we can discuss options.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

AND ON ANOTHER NON MOTORWAY- RELATED TOPIC -RUBBISH COLLECTION CHANGES

It is official – the Northern Waste company’s (orange bag ) weekly kerbside collection, formerly on Tuesdays, will change in June to coincide with the fortnightly Auckland Council (green and yellow wheelie bin) Thursday recycling collection. The starting date for both systems will be Thursday, June 11 2020.

To summarise: Two collection systems, one weekly, the other fortnightly, but both on the same day, Thursday. Makes sense?

Ahuroa Rd Sealing – consultation (urgent)

A follow up message from Glen Ashton:

The Consultation period closes TODAY.

Important – part of Ahuroa Road new seal looks like a one-lane section

I was emailed this letter that has gone to a few of the residents on Ahuroa Road.

There is more detail and a drawing … and consultation closes today on 20th May!

The section that will be one-lane is on the Ahuroa downhill side where there is a slip into the bush … seems they do not want to spend the money on benching and retaining?

Proposed design

So if you feel similarly and haven’t already done so email the AT address at [email protected], and our Local Board member Beth Houlbrooke [email protected] and tell them what you think of the idea.

Ahuroa Road Sealing translating into a sections of single lane road

Hi

Residents on Ahuroa Road recently got a consultation document from Auckland Transport concerning a proposed section of 1-lane roading being established on the Ahuroa Road hill section.

Some may have thought, as I initially did, that the consultation was about interim 1-lane arrangements during construction. However on re-reading the document I reckon it is intended to be permanent.

Having lived on Ahuroa Road since 1994, seeing the traffic volumes rising especially over the last 8-10 years, seen the sealing programme stall for around 12 years, and now hearing from AT that they would like to make part of our road 1-way to say I’m irritated is putting it very politely. Especially as the reason given on the letter is to “avoid excessive cost”. Absolutely nothing said about the expected impact on road users.

One can’t but feel that lurking feeling of rural communities coming off second-best at the hands of AT under the supercity, especially given Ahuroa Road is so busy now.

The Consultation period closes on the 20th ie this Wednesday. So if you feel similarly and haven’t already done so email the AT address at [email protected], and our Local Board member Beth Houlbrooke [email protected] and tell them what you think of the idea.

Change in fire season, as of today.

Hi everyone,

Please see the attached image which outlines a notice from the Auckland Regional Fire Service about moving into an open fire season as of today.

It should be noted, that other sources have stated that fires should be avoided until we’re out of Level 3; so you may want to hold off just one more day to ‘Play it Safe’? – The checkitsalright.nz site still has this notice on it today.
