It should be noted, that other sources have stated that fires should be avoided until we’re out of Level 3; so you may want to hold off just one more day to ‘Play it Safe’? – The checkitsalright.nz site still has this notice on it today.
I hope this email finds you safe and well as we learn to adjust to new ways of living to reduce the risk of COVID-19, we acknowledge this is a difficult and uncertain time for all of us.
In late March 2020, the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth structures team had almost finished the night works installing large beams on the Arawhiti ki Pūhoi Bridge across Pūhoi Road. However, work was stopped as we moved to Covid-19 Alert Level 4 on 26 March. Our team now needs three more nights to finish the beam installation, and we plan to start these works on Sunday 24 May. Please see the attached Works Notification for your reference.
For safety reasons and to minimise disruption, the work will be carried out at night. A small section of Pūhoi Road will be closed at night from Sunday 24 May to Tuesday 26 May between 9:00 pm to 04:30 am. Signposted detours and traffic management will be in place. Please note the dates are weather dependant and may be postponed if necessary.
Please be assured that we are focused on ensuring the health and safety of our staff and the public during this time and request that physical distancing requirements be respected. Please do not approach our teams or enter our work sites without formal approval.
I will continue to keep you update on the night time closures and any works that will be happing in the future near Pūhoi.

Does anyone out there have short term grazing for 3 horses? Paid of course. If there’s not a lot of grass I’m happy to supplement with hay and feed, just hoping to get them off my paddocks for a few weeks if possible to let them recover a little from the drought before winter sets in.The closer to 1227 Ahuroa Rd the better. Obviously would need to be able to be done whilst retaining our social distancing.

I have a smart meter at home, and I barely read emails from my power company. – In February they sent me an email explaining that as of 1st April I would be switched to Time of Use billing, meaning that whether I wanted it or not, I now have Peak and Off-Peak power rates. – If you have a smart-meter at home, then you do too.
Apparently regardless of which power company you buy your power through, all Vector connected customers with smart meters underwent a mandatory change to their method billing on the 1st April. If you didn’t have Time of Usage billing before, they will now split your bills out to Peak and Off-Peak charges. This just so happened to coincide with when we were all told to live for most of April at home and not to go anywhere.
Peak Hours are: Monday to Friday (incl): 7am-11am and 5pm-9pm.
Off Peak Hours are: any other time of day, and all weekend long.
PUBLIC HOLIDAYS, if they fall on weekdays remain as a mix of Peak and Off-Peak, with the same time splits as above.
I’m sharing this because the differences between Peak and Off-Peak charges on a per unit basis can be significant. – In my case, I’m paying around 15/c per kWh used off-peak, and just under 25/c per kWh peak. A savings of ~10/c per kWh (or a saving of 40% of the Peak, per kWh usage-costs, by changing various timers or behavioural patterns may be worth exploring).
Anyway, I was surprised to find out that they’d done this, so I thought I’d share this in case you didn’t know about this either.

Last night Auckland Emergency Management sent through a message which can be circulated to your networks to provide an additional layer of support in your communities.
From Wednesday 1 April, Aucklanders who are unable to afford groceries or are in self-isolation with no access to other support networks can call us on 0800 22 22 96 between 7am and 7pm, seven days a week for assistance. If you are unsure about whether or not this is right for you, just give us a call and we’ll talk it through.

2. All Civil Defence Emergency groups nationwide have activated with an emergency number so this message can also be distributed to your family, friends and colleagues in other parts of New Zealand.
As you are identifying and connecting with our elderly and vulnerable neighbours and community members, you may come across a few people who have specific needs or requirements that we are just physically unable to help with. Connecting locally is obviously of paramount importance but just in case please find the following information which you will find reassuring as a back up and fall-back safety net when we may not have local connections.
You can refer to the dedicated AEM Covid-19 website for updates.
Remember people are allowed to go to the supermarket or pharmacy alone. It is okay to ask neighbours or family and friends who live locally to do this for someone who is unable to go themselves (e.g. for an older person who can’t go out). If someone has urgent welfare needs and is unable to get assistance from friends, family or neighbours to get:basic supplies such as food (including food for your pets, essential toiletries, baby items, etc, then refer them (or contact on their behalf) this new AEM service. 0800 2222 96 7am to 7pm.

Please be aware that Waste Management’s Resource Consent application to construct and operate a new regional landfill facility in the Dome Valley has been publicly notified and is now open for submissions until 26 May.
I know there is a great deal of interest in the community surrounding the proposed landfill so please make your contacts aware of this opportunity as it may otherwise be easily missed during the lock down period for Covid-19.
