Council response to water shortages

Monday 17th February. – Auckland Council Update on Water Issues.

Weather

• There is no significant rainfall expected by MetService in the next four days.

TODAY: Using the milk tanker fleet

• The first tanker-to-tanker filling sites opened over the weekend, largely serving the north Rodney community, via commercial operators.

• A further site, focussed on servicing tanker delivery companies in the South East Auckland opens today in Beachlands

• This initiative has proven very successful, easing pressure on Watercare’s regular network of filling stations and reducing wait times for customers.

• These tanker-to-tanker sites will continue to act as an alternative filling stations for private operators. The council is not filling private tanks.

• Residents are still advised to phone their regular water supply company and, if they can’t get through first time, to keep trying.

COMING SOON: Bulk tanks

• We are working through the logistics required to install, sterilise and fit up to 20 static (10,000L capacity) tanks with pumps and taps at rural locations around the region.

• People will be able to self-fill handheld containers from these tanks.

TODAY: Community water collection

• Five community water collection locations are open from 10am to 8pm today. People can take in handheld containers for filling.

• Preliminary feedback from people at the community sites is that many businesses and organisations are offering water collection and the council’s efforts are supplementing this.

• While use of these sites is low, they remain an important part of our response.

• These sites are Wellsford Community Centre, Warkworth Town Hall, Helensville Library, Orewa Auckland Council Service Centre and Te Puru Community Centre in Beachlands.

• Two more are open on Waiheke Island from 7am-7pm. These are located at the Matiatia carpark and Onetangi Sports Park.

• Two community-led sites are operating at Piha and Kawakawa Bay.

TODAY: Showers and water filling at leisure centres

• Eight leisure centres are providing showering facilities to the public and a water filling point for handheld containers, during normal operating hours.

• These are Franklin Pool and Leisure Centre, Pukekohe; Jubilee Swimming Pool and Aquatic Centre, Pukekohe; Whiteside Pool, Waiuku; Massey Park Pool, Papakura; Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre, Stanmore Bay; Albany Stadium Pool, Albany; Glenfield Pool and Leisure Centre, Glenfield and West Wave Aquatic Centre, Henderson.

Water tankers delivering to Ahuroa

Hi, does anybody know of a water firm still willing to take a booking for Ahuroa?

Have tried a number of them but most won’t deliver outside Whangaparaoa at the moment, they are having terrible supply problems themselves. Perhaps post a reply on the Facebook page, I am probably not the only one watching the tank go down…and down…and down…
