The story of the stolen goods.

Hi There

The story about what happened to our Gates, told to us by the Warkworth Police.

A number of unusual items had been reported stolen, a Metal Sheep, a Dragon Tree in a pot, our Gates, and strangely…a large Easter Island Head! When this was brought up at the weekly Police briefing one of the Policemen remembered seeing a large Easter Island Head at a property in Snells Beach recently, so he went to check, and asked the woman who answered the door where she got the Easter Island Head from and the Dragon Tree in a pot that was in the entrance, at which point she promptly asked him to get a search warrant… which he did!
When the Police searched the property there was a large tent at the back, full of stolen property and.. funny… security cameras everywhere as they were worried someone would steal their hoard!
A lot had been placed on Trademe, including our Gates which had been sold, cut down in size, re-painted and placed proudly at the front of another property.
The good news is… the builder who bought them ( not realizing they were stolen ) will make us new ones… yay!!

The BEST part of this story …. the Easter Island Head was the ONE thing that wasn’t stolen… they had bought it!!

We do hope everyone receives their items back.

Thank you to the Warkworth Police

Kindest Regards Everyone.

Thunderstorm Watch issued – 16th May 2016

Good Afternoon Community Response Group Members,

MetService have issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the entire Auckland Region (excluding Great Barrier Island) between 6pm and 10pm this evening (Monday 16th May).

There is a moderate risk of Severe Thunderstorms moving in from the Tasman Sea during that time.

Our main concern is localised squalls (straight-line wind) with gusts of 90-110km/hr, and the potential for damaging tornadoes.

We also expect heavy rain 10-20 mm/hr, lightning, thunder and hail over the same period this evening.

If a Severe thunderstorm is identified on the radar (one which displays squall or tornado signature), MetService will issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.

We will be advising the public to take appropriate action including securing outdoor equipment and furniture and If people see unusual weather activity that is not typical to head indoors and ensure your pets are kept safe inside.

Kind regards

Craig.

Ahuroa School BoT Elections

Nominations are now invited for the election of 5 (five) parent representatives to the Ahuroa School Board of Trustees. A nomination form, information brochure and a notice calling for nominations can be collected from Ahuroa School during office hours, or from the Returning Officer. Nominations close at noon on 20th May 2016 and may be accompanied by signed candidates’ statements. There will also be a list of candidates’ names, as they come to hand, for inspection at the school.

What is a school board of trustees? Every state and state-integrated school in New Zealand has a board of trustees. School board membership includes elected parent representatives, an elected staff representative and the principal.

What do trustees do? First and foremost a board is accountable for student progress and achievement to its parents and community. The board has the overall responsibility for the school. This includes legal obligations covering curriculum, property, personnel, finance and health and safety.

Who can become a trustee? Parents, caregivers and people from the wider community can be nominated for election to a school board.  Ahuroa School would be happy to help you find out more about standing for election or nominating someone else.

Regards, Angela Phillips, Returning Officer

later afternoon/evening childcarer wanted

we are looking for a local person who can carry out childcare (well, teen-care actually), on an adhoc basis when required.

we live in komokoriki hill road & we have two teens (aged 15 & 14), the eldest being our daughter & youngest our son- they go to kaipara college in helensville.

occasionally I have meetings out of area and am then unable to pick up the kids from the school bus at 3.50pm (at the old firestation on west coast road). this is only a problem mon-weds as my husband is able to cover for me thursdays & fridays.

so we are looking for someone mature & experienced (ie not a teenager!) who can do the occasional pick-up & take the kids to our home & be here with them until I get home, which usually wouldn’t be much later than about 6pm, depending on where i have to go. they are pretty self-sufficient & well-behaved & can carry on with their normal tasks so don’t need entertaining or occupying, just adult supervision.

occasionally we also need overnight stays as well if I have to be out of town for a few days, & we have a very comfortable sleep-out available for this.

at the moment I am particularly looking for someone who can do the afternoon pick-ups with overnight stays from monday23rd to weds25th May incl (ie 2 nights & 3 pick-ups).

hopefully this will turn into an ongoing relationship with the opportunity for occasional evenings out for my husband & I too!

please contact bev trowbridge on [email protected] if you are interested.
p.s. we live on a beautiful organic farm.
